To keep up with our growing appetite for mushrooms, California farmers have been increasing their production, as reported by the California Farm Bureau Federation (CFBF). In addition to familiar button mushrooms, California farmers are growing more exotic species.
Mushroom sales in the U.S. reached a record of more than $1 billion last year. California ranks as the second-largest producer of mushrooms, behind Pennsylvania, growing about 20 percent of the nation's crop. Third is Florida.
The US is the 2nd largest producer of mushrooms, following China.
