California Citrus Industry Doing Well

Paul Story, Director of Grower Service for California Citrus Mutual in Exeter described the state of  the citrus industry on June 27. He noted that the navel season started out with small fruit, which hurt movement, however navels are finishing strong with good prices now.

When China stop importing citrus due to brown rot issues, navel shipments were ending. “However it has affected the Valencia market,” said Story, who noted “other export markets have taken the slack up, so it is actually going fairly well now.

Valencia prices are good, but not great. California lemons started out very slow in the winter with competition from Mexico, but currently there is very strong movement and pricing,” noted Story.
