Saying farmers should pay an added fee for all Nitrogen
Fertilizer products to help fund repairs to California water systems in certain
areas of the state where there is nitrate contamination, but agriculture
officials are pushing back.
A new report from the state’s water board is urging the
Legislature to enact the new fees
Manual Cunha is President of the Nisei Farmers League in
Fresno. He said that lawmakers should just hold on. What about homeowners and municipalities using nitrogen, which ends up in retention ponds in many cities.
Cunha said if everyone paid then it would be more fair.
